An investor bought a lot for $250,000 and later sold it for $230,000. Based on the purchase price, what was the percentage loss?
  1. 8.7%
  2. 92%
  3. 8%
  4. 0.8%

Answer: C. Loss = $250,000 - $230,000 = $20,000. Percentage loss is measured against the original cost: $20,000 / $250,000 = 0.08, or 8%.
